Moving (again)

Hopefully we'll be moving into our new house today. We're not meant to pick up the keys until tomorrow but I dropped a cooker off yesterday and the landlord asked what our plans for the rest of the weekend were (namely "I'm off to Basingstoke now, we're packing a few essentials then staying at the mother-in-law's tomorrow night"). He said that we'd just as well pick up the keys today as long as we're not back too late.

Due to Virgin Media's complete incompetence (which will require a long and separate post) I'm not going to have any internet for a week or two, but on the plus side can use my phone as a modem. It won't be an ideal solution but will be fine for checking my e-mail and google reader.

We're going to be roughing it a bit as we're only moving the essentials that we can fit in my car, next week we're hiring a big truck to move the bigger things such as the bed and the sofa.

Today is Father's Day, which has unfortunately taken on a sad twist as it's my nieces' first without their dad. They're still OK with a lot of things, but my parents took them down to Weymouth in their caravan a week or two ago and they got very confused by the references the Father's Day everywhere and had a very tough time. Supposedly they kept asking if it was Father's Day why they couldn't see their daddy.

Then they made me cry by reading out the letters they had written to dad in the cards they had made that they're leaving on Neal's grave.....

So yes, a hard time and unfortunately we're going to have other firsts without Neal, such as Emily's next birthday and Christmas. Just makes you thankful for what you've got.

  1. We too had problems with Virgin Media, they took forEVER to sort out our internet. Their customer services are crap. And now they've said they're capping our internet too =(

Is Virgin as crap as the time they said to me and Rachel "Oh, no problem, we can transfer all your services as is to your new address" and then on the day of installation they said "um, actually you can only get the very bare minimum and dial up."?

    Good luck with the move.

  3. The first year is usually the hardest at any age - because it's a year of firsts.

My sympathies to the girls and the family still. It's a rough track ahead, all the best with it.
