...or so they'll have us believe.
Bah humbug.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not about to launch into a rant about "the good old days". I am under no illusions that Christmas used to be some sacred tradition - even Victorians moaned about 'Christmas in September' and creeping commercialisation. It's not a new phenomenon.
Neither am I going to whinge about companies supposedly hijacking the period. They are merely catering for demand, and people never seem to learn that they either create that demand or at least respond to it. Hell, I even appreciate why some people, especially those on low incomes, need to buy for Christmas in slowly in advance so they can afford it.
But I just wish that it really did only last a couple of weeks at most. I truly believe that if it did I would be the biggest Christmas fanatic going. I would get excited about decorations and "getting into the spirit".
But after seeing Christmas decorations in Bristol's Cabot Circus shopping centre last month and walking into my local Tesco today to be greeted by a large Christmas tree I'm just grumpy about it all as usual.
Anyone else?
